Folding activities - July 2018

I haven't been doing an awful lot so far, as I've been concentrating on my website.

I have managed to fold a few hydrangea variations though.

This is a neat variant. You can find the instructions from the Sara Adams' website

Hydrangea with leaves - standard method

Framed Hydrangea

Framed Hydrangea

This one's cool, and I discovered it myself when I was playing with a hydrangea pattern based on a 6x6x12x12 grid and trying to generate colour-changes. I wondered if it was possible to create a half hydrangea level along the outer edges.

After a bit of experimentation, I realised that if you don't fold the outermost level, there's enough paper along the edges to create four inward-facing units, framing the hydrangea.

It's a bit tricky to create the hydrangea levels on outer petals, as it's necessary to fold each level on just a single unit rather than a pair.

The resulting model can be easily tessellated.

It's not the neatest of models, but it's the first one I've created, and the only paper I could spare that was large enough to do the model justice was slightly too thick.

Well, that's my excuse anyway..

This is a quarter hydrangea folded out of an 8x8 grid with only a few of the levels created.
